Reading other threads, I popped the hood and found a short piece (~1 foot) of disintegrated hose on the left hand side of the engine block (American passenger side). I pulled off the hose clamps and what little cloth like tubing remained and replaced the tubing with black silicone tubing purchased from an eBay auction with these specifications:<\/p>\n<li>Premium Silicone Vacuum Hose<\/li>\n<li>ID: 4 mm \/ 5\/32&#8243;<\/li>\n<li>Quantity: 5 ft <\/li>\n<li>Made of premium quality silicone<\/li>\n<li>Wall Thickness:0.12&#8243; or 3mm<\/li>\n<li>Working Temperature: -40\u00b0C to 220\u00b0C (428F)<\/li>\n<li>Working Pressure: 0.3 Mpa to 0.9 Mpa or (43.5PSI to 130.5PSI)<\/li>\n<li>Available Color: Red, Blue, Black<\/li>\n<p>The new tubing fits like a glove and the listing is still available: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/161551221275\">https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/161551221275<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had this hose installed for almost 4 months with exposure to hot (90 degrees Fahrenheit) and cool conditions (10 degrees Fahrenheit) and my 2001 New Beetle GLS is purring like a pussy cat again.
